PURE-STOCK CLASS

PINEWOOD CUP: THE OFFICIAL PINEWOOD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

OVERVIEW:THE PURE STOCK CLASS IS BASED ON BSA PINEWOOD DERBY RULES. THIS IS THE MOST RESTRICTIVE CLASS IN THE PINEWOOD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. CARS IN THIS CLASS REQUIRE STOCK BSA WHEELS, STANDARD AXLES AND A 4 3/8 INCH WHEELBASE. BE CREATIVE WITH YOUR SHAPING, WHEEL PREPARATION, AXLE PREPARATION, ALIGNMENT, WEIGHT PLACEMENT, AND YOUR PAINTING TO MAKE A VERY FAST CAR.

PART OF THE JOY OF PINEWOOD RACING IS THE ENJOYMENT OF BUILDING A CAR. EACH CAR CAN COMPETE IN THE PINEWOOD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR ONE RACE. A CAR BODY CANNOT BE RE-USED IF IT WAS ENTERED IN A PREVIOUS PINEWOOD CUP.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

STAGING

Cars are staged straight down the lane with the wheels pulled away from the center rail and body of the car.
Entrants that are live have the option to stage there own cars.
Two runs in each lane with the lowest total average time provides the winner.
No running, touching, or stepping over the track.
No touching the cars (other than to stage your own car).
Must conduct yourself in an orderly manner.

BODY SPECS

Wheel base must remain as it comes in the BSA kit 4 3/8 inches. No moving the wheelbase. One axle to be 1 inch from end of car plus or minus 1/8 inch. (Rule modified August 20, 2008)
Original Axle slots and/or drilled holes are allowed. (No Altering the wheel base length shorter or longer. Judges will allow for 1/8 inch variance in wheelbase as nort all BSA blocks are drilled identically.) (Rule modified August 20, 2008)

Height : Not to exceed 2-3/4" inches ( 7cm )
Length : Not to exceed 7" inches ( 17.8 cm )
Weight : Not to exceed 5.00 ounces ( 141.747 grams )
Width : Not to exceed 2 3/4" inches ( 7 cm )
Center Rail Height : 1/4" inch ( 7mm )
Center Rail Width : 1 5/8" inches (4.2 cm)

NOTE: Center Rail height and width are the actual measurements of the track, so you must build the car to clear these dimensions for the wheels to ride on the track, outside of the rails, the car must not ride on the inside of the rails. The height and width must be followed to avoid hitting the car in the next lane and to avoid hitting the scoreboard/timing electronics at the bottom of the track.

1. BODY AND PINEWOOD DERBY KITS ALLOWED

The main part of the body must be made of Pinewood. Additional materials maybe added as long as the meet the race requirements and are firmly attached and conform to the body specification requirements.
No parts can protrude in front of the starting peg.
BSA wide wheel kit is allowed only.

2. AXLES

Axles, must remain the stock size. Axle diameters in the .084 - .096 inch range are allowed. You may also use after-market Axles that meet the Axle requirements.
Axles may be polished or reshaped to allow for faster wheel spin but must remain to the race parameters.
No bushing, bearings, sleeves, inserts attached to the wheels, Axles or the body in anyway.
No one piece rod Axle types.

No axle can be angled or bent more than 45 degrees.

3. WHEELS

Overall wheels

BSA wide wheels are required for the Pure Stock racing class. Maximum 31mm diameter.
No drilling additional holes into any other part of the wheel.
No cutting and piecing multiple sets of wheels together.
Car must have at least 4 wheels and 4 axles. The axles and wheels must be attached to the side of the car body. Each axle must be placed through each wheel and then attached to and only mounted in the axle slot or drilled hole that replaced the axle slot, at 4 3/8" wheel base in the stock location. Only three wheels need to touch the track at a time.
Wheels must remain on the outside of the car body.
There must be no less than 1 5/8" clearance between the inside edge of the wheels.
(remember the tracks center rail is 1 5/8" wide so make sure your wheels clear this width...)
No part of the wheel that comes in contact with the track may be painted.

Outer tread surface

Wheels may be sanded and polished or lathed to remove mold casting burs and surface imperfections, to true the roundness of the wheel and to flatten the tread/contact surface. No additional weight reduction is allowed from the wheels.
The tread/contact surface of the wheel must be as flat as humanly possible. No Angling, Reshaping, Canting, Rounding, Crowning, Tapering, H-cutting, V-cutting, Narrowing or any other modification to the outside of the wheels and tread surface. (other than truing the circumference of the wheel.) The small detailed marks on the edge of the wheels must still remain visible around the entire circumference. Full contact of the tread surface (8mm) must be achieved in at least 3 of the wheels.

Inner wheel and hub

No inside hollowing or modifications are allowed other than truing and polishing the axle holes, and coning the wheel hub is allowed. No shaving down, reducing the inner diameter of the shaft of the hub where the axle will go. You may add materials to the inside of the wheel to aid wheel balance but can not remove any of the wheel plastic from the inside. (examples: drops of glue or paint)

4. WEIGHTS

The builder can select the type of weighting material he/she chooses to bring the car up to weight
provided it is permanently attached to the car within the specified dimensions.

5. LUBRICANTS:

Lubricants must be dry on the axle at race time. Wet, oily, or greasy axles are not allowed. Over-application of lubricant which results in excessive shedding onto the track is not allowed. Approved lubricants include (but are not limited to) graphite, Teflon, and Nyloil.

6. OTHER RULES AND NOTES:

Magnets and springs are forbidden.
Starting or finish line devices or propellants are forbidden.
Electronic or lighting devices are forbidden.
Glass or extremely fragile parts are forbidden.
Paint that rubs off, smudges or is extremely sticky is forbidden.
Loose objects on car are forbidden.
Moving weights or parts (other than the wheels) are forbidden.
Washers, Bushings, Bearings or Inserts are forbidden.
Sharp objects on the bottom of car. (We do not want any damage to the rubber stopping pads on the track) are forbidden.
Any part of the car to go beyond the starting peg is forbidden.
Sticky substances or anything on the car to aid with the starting peg is forbidden.
Axles and wheels must not be attached to any device that mechanically or other wise alters rotation and spin.
Pinewood cup directors reserve the right to disqualify or reclassify any car at their discretion. The builder will be notified as to why the disqualification or reclassification occurred.

7. DISCLAIMER

THE BUILDER AGREES TO ABIDE BY THE TERMS, RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THIS EVENT. THE BUILDER UNDERSTANDS THAT THE OFFICIATORS OF THE PINEWOOD CUP WILL BE AS CAREFUL AS POSSIBLE WITH THE BUILDERS CARS WHILE IN THE PINEWOOD CUP’S POSSESSION. IF THE BUILDERS CARS ARE ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED, LOST OR STOLEN IN THE PINEWOOD CUP’S CARE, THE PINEWOOD CUP WILL NEGOTIATE UP TO A $25.00 RESTITUTION. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE DAMAGE INCURRED DURING NORMAL RACING (SUCH AS FLYING OFF THE TRACK, OR BEING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR). PINEWOOD CUP IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE INCURRED IN SHIPPING. THE BUILDER UNDERSTANDS THE ENTRY FEES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE IF THE BUILDERS CARS DO NOT PASS CHECK IN. PINEWOOD CUP WILL SEND THE CAR BACK ALONG WITH AN EXPLANATION OF THE FAILURE. THE BUILDER WILL STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL RETURN SHIPPING COSTS. THE BUILDER PERMITS THE PINEWOOD CUP TO WRITE AN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR IN PERMANENT INK TO AID IN CAR IDENTIFICATION AMONG THOUSANDS OF OTHER CARS. THE BUILDERS CAR’S PICTURES/VIDEOS/CAR NAMES MAY BE USED ON THE WEB AND OTHER PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES. THE BUILDER WILL PACK THE CAR IN A STURDY BOX PADDED WITH BUBBLE WRAP OR SHIPPING POPCORN. THE BUILDER WILL NOT USE EXCESSIVE TAPE WHILE PADDING THE CAR AS THIS MAY CAUSE DAMAGE WHEN THE PINEWOOD CUP ATTEMPTS TO OPEN THE PACKAGE. THE BUILDER WILL INCLUDE THE CAR REGISTRATION INFO AND THE ENTRY FEE IN THE BOX WITH THE CAR UNLESS THE FEE WAS PAID BY PAYPAL IN WHICH CASE THE PAYPAL RECEIPT WILL BE INCLUDED INSTEAD OF PAYMENT.
